How to say it (He said that + sentence; She asked if + sentence): Negative: add not / don't / doesn't (She can swim → She cannot swim). Question: move the helping verb first (Can she swim?). Reporting: He said, "I am tired." → He said that he was tired. (tense usually goes one step back: am → was, will → would) said + that (no person); told + person (told me that...). Questions: She asked, "Are you free?" → She asked if I was free. Wh-: She asked where I was going.
