1.The night train rattles through the dark,
Past sleeping towns and a silent park.
Its windows glow, a golden line,
It whistles past the hills of pine.
Inside, the passengers softly snore,
A baby giggles near the door.
And when the morning sun is near,
It whistles, “Wake up! Delhi’s here!”
Which word rhymes with “line”? (a) dark (b) near (c) snore (d) pine -
2.Sound is made when something vibrates, or moves quickly back and forth. When you pluck a sitar string, it vibrates and makes a sound. The vibrations travel through the air to our ears. Sound can also travel through water and solids. In fact, it moves faster through solids than through air. Sound cannot travel through empty space, where there is no air. That is why space is completely silent. Loud sounds for a long time can harm our hearing.
What does “vibrates” mean in the passage? (a) Stays still (b) Breaks apart (c) Moves back and forth (d) Becomes hot -
3.Lightning is a giant spark of electricity in the sky. It happens when electric charges build up inside storm clouds. A flash of lightning heats the air around it very quickly. The hot air expands with a loud bang, which we hear as thunder. Light travels much faster than sound. That is why we see the flash before we hear the thunder. During a thunderstorm, stay indoors and away from tall trees. Standing under a tree is not safe, as lightning often strikes tall objects.
What do we hear as thunder? (a) Rain hitting roofs (b) Hot air expanding (c) Clouds crashing (d) Trees falling -
4.My father’s bicycle is black and old,
Its bell is rusty, but its heart is gold.

And never once complained, I say.
Now Father says it’s time to rest,
But I still think this bike’s the best.
Which part of the bicycle is rusty? (a) The seat (b) The chain (c) The bell (d) The wheels -
5.Plastic is cheap, light and strong. But most plastic does not rot away like leaves or fruit peels. A plastic bag may stay in the soil for hundreds of years. Plastic thrown on the road often blocks drains during the monsoon. Cows and other animals sometimes swallow plastic with food scraps. In the sea, turtles can mistake floating bags for jellyfish. We can help by carrying cloth bags and saying no to straws. Sorting dry and wet waste at home also helps.
What can turtles mistake floating bags for? (a) fish eggs (b) seaweed (c) rocks (d) jellyfish -
6.Rahul’s class went on a trek in the Western Ghats. Halfway up, Fatima twisted her ankle on a loose stone. Rahul wanted to reach the top first and win the race. But he stopped and helped the teacher tie a bandage. Then he carried Fatima’s bag for the rest of the climb. They reached the top last of all. The view of the green valleys was still worth it. Their teacher said that kindness matters more than coming first.
What did Rahul carry for the rest of the climb? (a) Water bottles (b) The teacher’s bag (c) Fatima’s bag (d) A tent -
7.Every winter, thousands of birds fly to India from colder lands. These travellers are called migratory birds. Many of them come from Siberia and Central Asia. They escape the freezing cold and find food in our lakes and wetlands. Bharatpur in Rajasthan and Chilika Lake in Odisha are famous places to see them. Flamingos, cranes and ducks are among the visitors. In spring, the birds fly back to breed. Protecting wetlands keeps their winter homes safe.
When do these birds come to India? (a) During the monsoon (b) Every winter (c) Every summer (d) Every spring -

But I still think this bike’s the best.
What colour is the bicycle? (a) Blue (b) Red (c) Black (d) Silver -
9.The Sun heats water in seas, rivers and lakes. The water turns into an invisible gas called water vapour. This change is called evaporation. High in the sky, the vapour cools and turns into tiny drops of water. These drops join together to form clouds. When the drops become too heavy, they fall as rain. This is called precipitation. Rainwater flows back into rivers and seas, and the cycle begins again.
What heats the water in seas and rivers? (a) The wind (b) The Moon (c) The clouds (d) The Sun -
10.A new girl named Lakshmi joined Tenzin’s class in July. She had moved from a village in Tamil Nadu and spoke little Hindi. At lunch, she sat alone under the neem tree. Some children laughed at her accent. Tenzin remembered his own first day in Delhi, when he too had felt lost. He sat beside her and shared his momos. Lakshmi taught him a few Tamil words in return. By August, the two were the best of friends.

It then makes special fighters called antibodies. Later, if the real germ enters, the body knows how to beat it quickly. Children in India get vaccines against polio, measles and other diseases. Most vaccines are given as injections, but the polio vaccine can be given as drops. Vaccines have saved millions of lives.
