Class 6 Maths Worksheet: Algebra
The method (Keep the balance): 3x means 3 × x. "5 more" → + 5, "5 fewer" → − 5, "5 times" → 5n, "shared among 5" → n ÷ 5. Value of an expression: put the number in place of the letter, then work it out — 3x + 5 when x = 4 is 12 + 5 = 17. Solve x + a = b by taking a from both sides; x − a = b by adding a; ax = b by dividing by a; x ÷ a = b by multiplying by a. Check by putting your answer back into the equation.
