Chapter 4: Planning
Introduction
The chapter opens with IOCL: Fuelling Sustainable Future. Indian Oil, a Maharatna PSU and India's largest fuel retailer, has set the goal of net zero operational emissions by 2046 and plans an investment of about ₹2 lakh crore towards alternative and green energy, waste management, recycling and biodiversity conservation. The case shows planning as setting objectives and deciding in advance how to reach them. A second example, Polaris, plans to expand capacity to employ 800 more professionals within six months, with a current-year objective of 1,500–2,000 more.
