Unit 2: Motor Fitness
Introduction
This unit teaches why being fit helps us stay healthy and strong. It focuses on four goals:

💡 Key Learning Points
- ✓Motor fitness is muscles and nerves working together, using coordination, balance, agility and reaction time.
- ✓Warm-up (5–10 minutes) raises body temperature and heart rate and lowers injury risk.
- ✓Stretching before and after activity lets joints move through their full range; stretch within your own limits.
- ✓Cool-down (5–10 minutes) lowers temperature and heart rate in a controlled way, with deep breathing.
- ✓Games like Obstacle Race, Shivam Says and Crocodile Race develop balance, reaction time, strength and teamwork.
👨🏫 Teaching Tips
- →Demonstrate each stretch slowly and show its variation for stronger or less flexible students.
- →Time the warm-up and cool-down so students experience 5–10 minutes of each.
- →During stretching, cue slow deep breathing and remind students not to compare flexibility.
- →Pair students of similar body weight for the Crocodile Race.
- →Use Shivam Says as a quick listening and reaction-time check at the start of class.
- →After Collaborate and Conquer, compare the captain's and the team's times to discuss teamwork.
- →Practise spotting injury signs and set a clear procedure for reporting them.
📋 Assessment Questions
- Can the student define motor fitness and name its skills?
- Can they explain why warm-up and cool-down are needed and how long each should last?
- Can they perform at least five stretches correctly?
- Do they recognise signs of physical injury and know to report them?
- Do they cooperate and plan with their team in group games?
