Annexures: Designing Your Own Project (Project Template, Learning Outcomes and Additional Projects)

What Is in the Annexures?

The end of Kaushal Bodh Grade 8 has four annexures that help you design your own project instead of (or in addition to) the six illustrative ones:

  • Annexure 1 — Project Template: the questions every project must answer.
  • Annexure 2 — Curricular Goals and Learning Outcomes for Grade 8: what skills and values the projects build.
  • Annexure 3 — Additional Projects: 15 more project ideas, five for each form of work.
  • Annexure 4 — Time Allocation and Mapping of Learning Outcomes: suggested periods and outcomes for each of the six projects.
  • Annexure 1: The Project Template

Every project follows the same structure. Use it as a checklist when you plan your own.

Choose a descriptive and engaging title that gives a clear idea of the project's purpose.
  • Write about your project — why it is essential, how it is relevant to your life, school or community, its benefits, its link to real-world problems, and its possible impact.
  • What will I be able to do? — two or three simple, achievable, measurable objectives.
  • What will I need? — tools, equipment and materials, preferably locally available.
  • How do I keep myself and others safe? — safety with tools and materials, Internet safety and cyber security, suitable clothing for fieldwork (long sleeves, pants, sturdy shoes), safety of plants and animals, and confidentiality (never share information about anyone without permission).
  • What do I need to know before I start? — prior knowledge, experts to meet, local information, surveys or field visits; clear roles for everyone.
  • What do I have to do? — follow the plan and timelines, observe others to learn skills, monitor progress, and keep records. For each activity, record the materials and tools used, the process, any data collected, photos or sketches of what you made, safety precautions, any AI tools used and how, how you shared results outside school, and what you did to keep the environment clean or recycle waste.
  • What did I learn from others? — from field trips, experts, friends, family, elders and the community. This builds communication and teamwork, and brings new ideas.
  • What did I do and how long did it take? — record the sequence of activities and the time for each, to build time-based planning.
  • What else can I do? — apply your learning outside school: workshops, coding classes, exhibitions, cultural events, interdisciplinary projects.
  • Think and Answer — what you enjoyed, the challenges you faced, project-related questions, and jobs linked to the work.
  • Planning a project — what the final event is, when and where, invitees, what it involves, the steps and deadlines, and who is responsible for each resource.
  • Annexure 2: Curricular Goals and Learning Outcomes

Grade 8 vocational education has four Curricular Goals (CG) with 18 Learning Outcomes (LO):

CG-1: Basic skills and knowledge of work, materials and procedures

  • Selects the right tools and uses them correctly (LO 1–2)
  • Follows a stepwise process and makes a time-based plan (LO 3–4)
  • Keeps materials and equipment ready and follows the safety protocol (LO 5–6)
  • CG-2: Place and usefulness of vocations in the world of work

  • Explains the importance of vocations and what interests you in one (LO 7–8)
  • Explains how prior knowledge and skills were used (LO 9)
  • Identifies criteria for the quality and quantity of products (LO 10–11)
  • CG-3: Essential values while working

Values: attention to detail, persistence and focus, curiosity and creativity, empathy and sensitivity, collaboration and teamwork, and willingness to do physical work. For example: observing tools keenly and asking questions (LO 12), respecting people who do physical labour, irrespective of gender (LO 13), helping peers (LO 14), reworking a task to improve it (LO 15), suggesting alternative uses for tools (LO 16), and enjoying physical work (LO 17). These values apply to all activities.

CG-4: Skills to run and contribute to a home

  • Identifies where your skills and knowledge are useful at home (LO 18)
  • Annexure 3: Additional Project Ideas

    Work with Life Forms

  • Keyhole Garden — soil testing, organic manure, a layered keyhole garden bed, greywater reuse, a neem-based pesticide, cost charts (about 50 periods)
  • Microbes for Healthy Food Preparation — e.g., making curd
  • Biogas and Solar Operation
  • *Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) Cultivation*
  • Art with Bacteria
  • Work with Machines and Materials

  • Making a Tree Guard
  • Image Recognition AI Model (Flowers and Plants)
  • Household Water Connection (plumbing)
  • Apparel Design
  • Food Preservation through Organic Techniques
  • Work in Human Services

  • Creating Content on Heritage Sites/Old Homes
  • Personal Grooming and the Art of Mehndi
  • Create a School Magazine
  • Fundraising by Providing Services
  • Set up a School Restaurant
  • Each idea lists related areas, what you will need, safety, what to learn first, and what to do. Required periods range from about 45 to 53.

Annexure 4: Time and Outcomes for the Six Projects

Suggested periods: Hydroponics 54, Farm Animals 54, Wood and Bamboo 50, Home Automation 52, Water Audit 43, Advertising for Small Businesses 50. Each activity is mapped to learning outcomes; LO 6 (safety) is stressed wherever tools are used, and LO 18 links learning to home. Projects also connect to Languages, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Art Education and Physical Education.

    Key Terms

  • Project template — standard structure for a project (परियोजना प्रारूप)
  • Objective — what you will be able to do (उद्देश्य)
  • Curricular goal — broad aim of learning (पाठ्यचर्या लक्ष्य)
  • Competency — ability to do something well (दक्षता)
  • Learning outcome — measurable result of learning (अधिगम प्रतिफल)
  • Confidentiality — keeping information private (गोपनीयता)
  • Time-based plan — plan with deadlines (समयबद्ध योजना)
  • Vocation — a type of work or occupation (व्यवसाय)
  • Interdisciplinary — linking many subjects (अंतर्विषयक)
  • Keyhole garden — circular raised garden bed (कीहोल बगीचा)
  • Common Mistakes

  • Choosing a vague title that doesn't show the project's purpose.
  • Writing objectives that can't be measured.
  • Skipping the safety and confidentiality section.
  • Not recording time taken and challenges as you go.
  • Forgetting to note which AI tools you used and how.
  • 💡 Key Learning Points

    • ✓The project template gives a fixed set of questions to design any vocational project.
    • ✓Good objectives are simple, achievable and measurable; resources should be locally available.
    • ✓Grade 8 has four curricular goals: work skills, understanding vocations, values at work, and running a home.
    • ✓The values include attention to detail, persistence, creativity, empathy, teamwork and willingness to do physical work.
    • ✓Annexure 3 offers 15 extra project ideas — five each for life forms, machines and materials, and human services.

    👨‍🏫 Teaching Tips

    • →Give each group a blank copy of the template and have them fill it in for a project of their choice.
    • →Ask students to turn a vague objective ('learn gardening') into a measurable one.
    • →Match class activities to learning outcomes (e.g., using a spanner correctly = LO 2) to make the goals concrete.
    • →Let groups pick one Annexure 3 idea and present a one-page plan with materials, safety and steps.
    • →Discuss LO 13 — respect for people doing physical labour, irrespective of gender — with real examples.
    • →Show the suggested periods from Annexure 4 and have students draft a time-based plan.
    • →Emphasise recording AI-tool use and sharing results outside school as part of good documentation.

    📋 Assessment Questions

    1. Can the student list the main sections of the project template in order?
    2. Can the student write two measurable objectives for a chosen project?
    3. Can the student name the four curricular goals and give one learning outcome for each?
    4. Can the student name at least one additional project idea for each form of work?
    5. Can the student explain why safety (LO 6) and time-based planning (LO 4) matter?
