Lesson 18
Project: Autonomous Robot Concept
Design a robot that navigates and makes decisions on its own
1Problem Statement✨
In today's world, there are many scenarios where robots can assist with tasks that are repetitive, dangerous, or require high precision. Designing an autonomous robot can help solve problems like delivering items in hospitals, navigating through disaster zones, or assisting in agricultural tasks. This project will help you understand how robots can operate independently to make decisions based on their environment.
2Objective🎯
In this project, you will conceptualize a robot that can navigate its surroundings and make decisions based on sensory input. You will learn about basic robotics concepts, including sensors, decision-making algorithms, and the importance of feedback loops in autonomous systems.
3Required Components/Software💡
4- Hardware:🚀
- Arduino board
- Ultrasonic distance sensor
- Motors (for movement)
- Chassis (for structure)5- Software:🔍
- Arduino IDE (for programming)
- Python (for decision-making logic)
- OpenCV (for vision processing, optional)6Architecture⭐
- The robot will consist of an Arduino board controlling motors for movement, an ultrasonic sensor for distance measurement, and potentially a camera for visual input. The flow of data will be:
- 1. Sensor data (distance or visual) is collected.
- 2. The Arduino processes this data.
- 3. Based on pre-defined rules, the robot decides its next action.
- 4. The motors are activated to execute the movement.
7Step-by-Step Instructions🧩
- 1. Sketch your robot design on paper, detailing where the sensors and motors will be placed.
- 2. Set up your Arduino board and connect the ultrasonic sensor to it.
- 3. Write a simple program to read distance data from the ultrasonic sensor.
- 4. Create conditional statements (if-else) in your code to determine actions (e.g., move forward, turn left, stop).
- 5. Test the robot in an open area, adjusting your code based on its behavior.
8Expected Output🎈
Success looks like your robot navigating a space, avoiding obstacles, and making decisions based on the distance data it collects. You should see it react to its environment intelligently.
9Challenge / Extension✨
To enhance the project, consider adding a camera and using OpenCV to allow your robot to recognize colors or shapes, enabling it to make more complex decisions based on visual cues.
