Lesson 10
Objects Basics
Group related data with objects
1What is an Object?✨
An object in JavaScript is a collection of related data and functions. Objects allow us to group together variables and functions that belong to a single entity. This makes it easier to manage and manipulate complex data.
2Why Use Objects?🎯
- ✓ Organizes related data together
- ✓ Makes code more readable and manageable
- ✓ Supports real-world modeling
- ✓ Enables the use of methods (functions within objects)
3Creating an Object💡
You can create an object using curly braces. Here’s an example of a simple object representing a car:
const car = {
brand: "Toyota",
model: "Camry",
year: 2021
};This object contains properties like brand, model, and year.
4Accessing Object Properties🚀
You can access the properties of an object using dot notation or bracket notation. Here’s how:
console.log(car.brand); // Outputs: Toyota
console.log(car["model"]); // Outputs: CamryUsing these methods, you can retrieve the information stored within your object.
5Adding Methods to Objects🔍
Objects can also have functions, called methods. Here’s how to add a method to our car object:
car.start = function() {
return "The car has started!";
};6Now you can call the method like this:⭐
console.log(car.start()); // Outputs: The car has started!
7What You'll Build This Grade🧩
- ✓ Interactive applications that use objects to store user data
- ✓ Games that represent characters and items as objects
- ✓ Complex programs that require organized data management
- ✓ Real-world simulations of various systems using objects
