Lesson 15
Loop Control Patterns
Solve classic loop-based puzzles
1Understanding Loop Control✨
Loop control patterns allow you to manage how loops behave, making them more powerful and flexible. In Python, you can use the `break`, `continue`, and `else` statements to control your loops effectively.
2Using Break🎯
The `break` statement stops a loop immediately when a certain condition is met. This is useful when you want to exit a loop early.
3Example:💡
for number in range(10):
if number == 5:
break
print(number)This code will print numbers from 0 to 4, then stop when it reaches 5.
4Using Continue🚀
The `continue` statement skips the current iteration and moves on to the next one. This is helpful when you want to ignore specific values.
5Example:🔍
for number in range(10):
if number % 2 == 0:
continue
print(number)This code will print only odd numbers from 0 to 9.
6Using Else with Loops⭐
You can also use the `else` statement with loops. The code inside the `else` block runs only if the loop completes without hitting a `break`.
7Example:🧩
for number in range(5):
print(number)
else:
print("Loop finished without interruption")This will print numbers from 0 to 4, followed by "Loop finished without interruption".
8Combining Patterns🎈
You can combine these control patterns to create more complex logic. For example, you could skip certain numbers and stop the loop based on a condition.
9Example:✨
for number in range(10):
if number == 7:
break
if number % 2 == 0:
continue
print(number)This will print 1, 3, 5, and 9, stopping at 7.
10Challenge Yourself🎯
Try creating a program that asks for user input to find prime numbers within a given range. Use `break` to exit the loop if the user enters a negative number and use `continue` to skip even numbers for efficiency!
Happy coding!
