Lesson 7
Joins Deep Dive
Combine data across multiple tables
1What Are Joins?✨
Joins are a way to combine data from two or more tables in a database. They allow you to connect related information based on a common field, making it easier to analyze complex data relationships.
2Why Use Joins?🎯
- ✓ Combine data from multiple sources
- ✓ Simplify complex queries
- ✓ Enhance data analysis and reporting
- ✓ Build more informative datasets
3Types of Joins💡
There are several types of joins you can use in SQL:
- INNER JOIN returns records that have matching values in both tables.
- LEFT JOIN returns all records from the left table and matched records from the right table.
- RIGHT JOIN returns all records from the right table and matched records from the left table.
- FULL OUTER JOIN returns all records when there is a match in either left or right table.
4Example of Inner Join🚀
Let's say we have two tables: "Students" and "Enrollments". To get the names of students along with their course names, we can use:
5SELECT Students.Name, Enrollments.Course🔍
FROM Students
INNER JOIN Enrollments ON Students.ID = Enrollments.StudentID;6Understanding Left Join⭐
If we want to list all students and their courses, but also include students who haven’t enrolled in any course, we can use a LEFT JOIN:
7SELECT Students.Name, Enrollments.Course🧩
FROM Students
LEFT JOIN Enrollments ON Students.ID = Enrollments.StudentID;8Using Multiple Joins🎈
You can combine multiple joins in one query. For example, if you have a "Courses" table and want to show student names, courses, and their instructors:
SELECT Students.Name, Courses.CourseName, Instructors.Name AS Instructor
FROM Students
INNER JOIN Enrollments ON Students.ID = Enrollments.StudentID
INNER JOIN Courses ON Enrollments.CourseID = Courses.ID
INNER JOIN Instructors ON Courses.InstructorID = Instructors.ID;9What You'll Build This Grade✨
- ✓ Complex queries to analyze student performance
- ✓ Reports combining data from different sources
- ✓ Interactive dashboards for data visualization
- ✓ Insights into course enrollments and instructor effectiveness
