Lesson 16
Project: Voice-Controlled Robot
Design a robot that moves based on spoken commands
1Problem Statement✨
In our increasingly digital world, many people have mobility challenges that can hinder their ability to interact with their environment. A voice-controlled robot can help assist individuals by performing tasks or navigating spaces based on spoken commands, making technology more accessible.
2Objective🎯
In this project, students will learn about voice recognition, robotics, and programming concepts. They will conceptualize a robot that responds to voice commands, enhancing their understanding of how machines can interpret and act on human input.
3Required Components/Software💡
- Arduino microcontroller
- Motor driver module
- DC motors (for movement)
- Ultrasonic distance sensor (for obstacle detection)
- USB microphone or compatible voice recognition module
- Basic robotics platform (like a small robot chassis)
- Arduino IDE for programming 4Architecture🚀
The voice recognition module captures spoken commands and sends them to the Arduino. The Arduino processes these commands and controls the motor driver to move the robot. The ultrasonic sensor helps avoid obstacles by sending distance data back to the Arduino, allowing it to navigate effectively.
5Step-by-Step Instructions🔍
- 1. Design your robot chassis and assemble the DC motors to enable movement.
- 2. Connect the motor driver module to the Arduino and attach the motors.
- 3. Integrate the voice recognition module with the Arduino using appropriate pins.
- 4. Write a simple program to interpret voice commands and translate them into motor movements.
- 5. Implement the ultrasonic sensor to ensure the robot can detect and avoid obstacles.
- 6. Test your robot by giving it commands and observing its movements.
6Expected Output⭐
Success looks like a functional robot that can move forward, backward, left, and right based on voice commands. The robot should also be able to avoid obstacles in its path, demonstrating effective navigation.
7Challenge / Extension🧩
To make the project more advanced, students can add additional commands for specific actions, such as turning in place or executing a dance move. They could also explore integrating a camera for visual recognition tasks, allowing the robot to respond to both voice and visual inputs.
