Lesson 7
Break & Continue
Control loop execution precisely
1Break and Continue in Loops✨
In Python, "break" and "continue" are special commands that help you control loops more precisely. They allow you to change the flow of your loop based on certain conditions.
2Using Break🎯
The "break" statement stops the loop completely. When Python encounters "break," it exits the loop and moves on to the next part of the program.
3Example:💡
for number in range(10):
if number == 5:
break
print(number)This code will print numbers 0 to 4 and then stop when it reaches 5.
4Using Continue🚀
The "continue" statement skips the current iteration and moves to the next one. This means it will not execute the remaining code in that loop for that iteration.
5Example:🔍
for number in range(10):
if number % 2 == 0:
continue
print(number)This code will print only odd numbers from 0 to 9 by skipping even numbers.
6Combining Break and Continue⭐
You can use both "break" and "continue" in the same loop. This gives you powerful control over what to do with each iteration.
7Example:🧩
for number in range(10):
if number == 7:
break
if number % 2 == 0:
continue
print(number)This will print 1, 3, 5, and then stop before reaching 7.
8Real-World Application🎈
Using "break" and "continue" is especially useful when processing user input or data. For example, if you're checking for valid entries and want to skip invalid ones, "continue" helps keep your program running smoothly.
9What You'll Do Next✨
- ✓ Practice using "break" and "continue" in your own loops
- ✓ Create a program that processes a list of items
- ✓ Build a game where certain conditions end the game early
- ✓ Experiment with different conditions to see how they affect loop behavior
