💡 Learn it first
Addition means putting together: 4 + 3 = 7. The answer is called the sum.
Add the ones first, then the tens. If the ones add up to 10 or more, carry 1 ten to the tens place: 38 + 25 → 8 + 5 = 13 (write 3, carry 1), 3 + 2 + 1 = 6 → 63.
The order does not matter: 5 + 9 = 9 + 5. Start from the bigger number and count on.
When the ones add up to 10 or more, we write the ones digit and carry the 1 ten to the tens column.
