Tables & multiplication questions

How can my child learn multiplication tables fast?

Learn a few tables at a time, starting with 2, 5 and 10, then 3 and 4, then 6, 7, 8 and 9. Use tricks instead of rote learning — 6 × n is 5 × n plus one more, 9 × n is 10 × n minus n — and practise a little every day. Short daily practice works better than one long session.

Pahade kaise yaad kare? (Hindi)

What age should a child learn times tables?

Most children start the 2, 5 and 10 tables at 6–7 years (Class 1–2), know tables up to 10 by 8–9 years, and tables up to 20 plus multiplication strategies by 9–12 years.

Should children learn tables up to 20?

Tables up to 10 are a must. Tables 11–20 make division, fractions and mental maths much faster, and with the “10 and a bit” trick they take only a few weeks.

What is the easiest way to learn the 7 times table?

Split 7 into 5 and 2: 7 × 8 = 5 × 8 + 2 × 8 = 40 + 16 = 56. Or use 7 × 10 = 70 and take away: 7 × 9 = 70 − 7 = 63.

Is learning tricks better than rote learning?

Children still need to know the basic facts quickly, but tricks help them understand why the answers are right and work out any fact they forget. The best results come from both: understand first, then practise for speed.

How do I get a tables certificate?

Sign in and pass the 20-sum test of a level (16 or more right) to earn its badge. Pass every level in a module — Module 1 is levels 1–7, Module 2 is 8–13, Module 3 is 14–22 — and you get that module’s certificate, with a code anyone can check.

Is this multiplication course free?

Yes. All 22 levels, practice, tests, worksheets, badges and certificates are free. Classes with a TalentJR teacher (online or at home) are paid — request a call back for fees.
