An adjective is a describing word — it tells more about a noun: a red ball, a tall tree, three mangoes.
Many adjectives have opposites: big – small, hot – cold, happy – sad.
Degrees of comparison: tall → taller (two things) → tallest (more than two). Long words use more / most: beautiful → more beautiful → most beautiful. Some are special: good → better → best.
A word that describes a noun: big, small, red, happy, five. In “a fat cat”, “fat” is the adjective.
