💡 Learn it first
Division is sharing equally: 12 ÷ 3 = 4 (12 sweets shared by 3 children — each gets 4).
Division is the opposite of multiplication: if 3 × 4 = 12, then 12 ÷ 3 = 4.
When it does not share exactly, the left-over part is the remainder: 17 ÷ 5 = 3, remainder 2. Check: 5 × 3 + 2 = 17.
What are dividend, divisor, quotient and remainder?
In 17 ÷ 5 = 3 R 2: 17 is the dividend, 5 the divisor, 3 the quotient and 2 the remainder.
