Engineers cannot draw a bridge full size, so they draw it to scale: every length is shrunk by the same amount. On a plan where 1 cm stands for 2 m, a 7 cm wall is 7 × 2 = 14 m long in real life, and a 30 m bridge is drawn 30 ÷ 2 = 15 cm long. Always check the units: 1 m = 100 cm, 1 cm = 10 mm and 1 km = 1000 m.
