💡 Learn it first
A fraction is a part of a whole: 3/4 means the whole is cut into 4 equal parts and we take 3. The top is the numerator, the bottom the denominator.
With the same denominator, the bigger numerator is the bigger fraction: 5/8 > 3/8. To add, add only the numerators: 2/7 + 3/7 = 5/7.
Equivalent fractions are equal: multiply top and bottom by the same number — 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6. 1/4 of 20 means 20 ÷ 4 = 5.
Use a roti or a chocolate bar: cut it into equal parts and name what you take — “3 out of 4 parts” is 3/4.
