Each digit has a place: in 4,352 — 2 is in the ones place, 5 in tens, 3 in hundreds, 4 in thousands.
The place value is the digit × its place: in 4,352 the place value of 3 is 300. The face value is just the digit (3).
Expanded form shows every place: 4,352 = 4,000 + 300 + 50 + 2.
What is the difference between place value and face value?
Face value is the digit itself; place value depends on where it is. In 572, the face value of 7 is 7 and its place value is 70.
