💡 Learn it first
A ratio compares two amounts of the same kind: 12 boys and 18 girls → 12 : 18 = 2 : 3 (divide both by the HCF, 6).
Two ratios are in proportion when they are equal: 2 : 3 = 8 : 12.
To share ₹50 in the ratio 2 : 3, make 2 + 3 = 5 parts: one part = ₹10 → ₹20 and ₹30.
Unitary method: find the value of ONE first. 4 pens cost ₹40 → 1 pen ₹10 → 7 pens ₹70.
What is the difference between ratio and proportion?
A ratio compares two quantities (3 : 4); a proportion says two ratios are equal (3 : 4 = 6 : 8).
