Perimeter is the distance all the way around: rectangle = 2 × (length + width); square = 4 × side.
Area is the space inside, measured in square units: rectangle = length × width; square = side × side.
On squared paper, count the squares to find the area. Remember the units: perimeter in cm, area in sq cm.
What is the difference between area and perimeter?
Perimeter is the length of the boundary (the fence); area is the surface inside (the grass). Perimeter is in cm or m, area in sq cm or sq m.
