मात्रा स्वर का चिह्न है जो व्यंजन के साथ लगता है: क + ा = का, क + ि = कि, क + ी = की, क + ु = कु, क + ू = कू।
छोटी इ (ि) की मात्रा अक्षर से पहले लिखी जाती है (दिन), बड़ी ई (ी) की मात्रा अक्षर के बाद (नदी)।
उ (ु) और ऊ (ू) की मात्रा अक्षर के नीचे लगती है: पुल, फूल।
