HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is the language used to build web pages: we mark up text with tags to say “this is a heading”, “this is a paragraph”, “this is a link”. We type HTML in a plain text editor or a code editor, save it as a .html file, and a web browser reads it and shows the page. Websites live on web servers, which send their pages to your browser.
