A robot is a machine that can sense what is around it, think (its program decides what to do) and act by itself — move, pick something up, beep or light up. A bicycle or a pair of scissors only does what we push it to do, so it is a machine but not a robot. A floor-cleaning robot that feels walls and turns away is a robot. Robots can look like arms, little cars, boxes or animals — they do not have to look like people.
