Who it is for

Class 2 and Class 3 · ages 6–9 · about 10–15 minutes · you need: a sharp pencil and an eraser; a thick pencil or crayon.

How to use this worksheet

  1. Say each letter aloud while you trace the dotted cursive word.
  2. Keep the pencil on the paper — cursive letters join without lifting.
  3. Write the word once more on your own in the empty line.
  4. Read the word you wrote and check the slant is the same for every letter.

Tip for parents and teachers: Short daily practice works best: one row a day keeps the joins smooth. Watch for letters that start in the wrong place — in cursive almost every small letter starts on the base line. Hold the pencil with the thumb and two fingers (a “tripod grip”). Young children tire quickly: stop after a few rows and come back later.
