About these worksheets

Cursive (joined) handwriting is taught in most Indian schools from Class 2 or Class 3. These ready-made sheets follow the usual order: first the small cursive letters a to z one at a time, then capital cursive letters, then mixed alphabet sets, and finally cursive words for every letter from A to Z so the child practises the joins between letters, not just single shapes.

Each sheet has a model to trace and lines to write on alone. Keep the paper slightly tilted and let the letters lean the same way. Ten minutes a day is better than a long weekend session. When the small letters are steady, move on to words — joining is where cursive becomes fast. Need lines for your own sentences or a child’s name? Our handwriting practice sheet maker builds custom cursive pages; the sheets here are ready to print. A soft HB pencil and a relaxed grip make the joins much smoother.

Skills practised

  • Forming small cursive letters a–z
  • Capital cursive letters A–Z
  • Joining letters into words (entry and exit strokes)
  • Even slant and size on four-line paper
  • Writing speed with neatness

How to use these sheets

  1. Trace the model letter or word slowly, keeping the pencil on the paper.
  2. Say each letter as you write it.
  3. Write the letter or word on your own on the empty lines.
  4. Check the slant — all letters should lean the same way.

Tip for parents and teachers: Almost every small cursive letter starts on the base line with an upward lead-in stroke. If joins look messy, practise just the lead-in stroke for a minute before the sheet.

Questions

In which class is cursive writing taught?

Most schools in India begin cursive in Class 2 or Class 3 (about age 7–8), after print letters are neat and steady.

Should a child learn small or capital cursive letters first?

Small letters first — they make up most of what we write and join to each other. Capital cursive letters come after.

What is the difference between these sheets and the handwriting sheet maker?

These are ready-made printable sheets. The handwriting practice sheet maker lets you type your own letters, words or the child’s name and builds a custom sheet.

Are these worksheets free?

Yes. Every sheet is free to open, print and download — no sign-up and no payment. You may use them at home, in tuition and in your classroom.

How do I print a worksheet?

Open the sheet, then press “Print” (or “Download Worksheet” to save the picture and print it later). Use plain A4 paper and choose “Fit to page” in the print settings so nothing is cut off.
