Look along the lines your piece moves on. Capturing means landing on the enemy piece’s square — the captured piece leaves the board.

You capture by moving onto a square with an enemy piece. Rooks, bishops, queens, knights and kings capture the same way they move; only the pawn captures differently (diagonally forward).
