India has many states, and each has a capital city where its government works: Mumbai for Maharashtra, Chennai for Tamil Nadu, Kolkata for West Bengal. Many old cities stand on rivers — Varanasi on the Ganga, Agra on the Yamuna, Guwahati on the Brahmaputra. The Himalayas lie in the north and the Thar Desert in Rajasthan.
State, capital, river — “link each state to its capital and each old city to its river”
