Semantic tags have names that say what their content is. header holds the logo and title at the top, nav holds the menu of links, main holds the main content, article holds a post or story, aside holds a side box, and footer holds notes at the bottom. div and span say nothing about meaning. Semantic tags help screen readers and search engines understand the page.
