A moving robot cannot stop instantly — it rolls on a little while the motors slow down, and a faster robot needs more room. So a robot keeps a safety gap. If it is 130 cm from a wall, moving at 20 cm per second, and must stop 10 cm before the wall, it may drive 130 − 10 = 120 cm, which takes 120 ÷ 20 = 6 seconds. Robots check their sensors many times a second; between two checks a robot moving 20 cm per second every 250 ms moves 5 cm.
✓ You passed this lesson’s test.
Room ÷ speed — “time it may drive = (distance now − gap to keep) ÷ speed”
Use it for: Programming robots that stop safely, robotics competitions and speed–distance–time sums.
Check: 6 × 20 = 120 cm, leaving 10 cm ✓
