Chapter 7: Solve it yourself · Level 20 of 20

Level 20: Speed tips and practice

Goal: Learn the tricks that make solving faster, then solve a whole cube against the clock. 3 tasks · ★★★ = fewest moves.

Task 1 of 3

The 4-move trick done six times brings the cube back. This cube has had it five times — do it once more, as smoothly as you can.

Algorithm

Keyboard: U D L R F B turn a face, with Shift for the prime (U'). Y turns the whole cube. Backspace undoes.

    💡 Need a hint?

Look ahead: while you finish one piece, search for the next one. Learn the algorithms by feel, so your fingers do them without thinking. Turn the whole cube less — and keep the cross on the bottom.

    What you learn here

Speed comes from smooth turning, not from rushing. Practise each algorithm slowly until it flows, use your fingers (not your whole hand) for U turns, and look for the next piece while you finish the current one. Any 3×3 cube works for practice; a cube that turns smoothly helps.

Chapter 7 — Solve it yourself: Put all seven steps together on a mixed-up cube, then learn tips for solving faster.
