You need: an empty plastic bottle, vinegar, baking soda, a balloon, a funnel or spoon and a tray for spills. What happens: when the baking soda falls into the vinegar, it fizzes hard and the balloon blows up. Why: vinegar is an acid and baking soda is a base; they react and make a new gas, carbon dioxide, which fills the balloon. Because a new substance forms, it is a chemical change. With plain water instead of vinegar there is hardly any fizz.
