You need: turmeric powder, water, strips of white paper, soap solution, lemon juice and a dropper or spoon. What happens: a drop of soap solution turns the yellow turmeric paper reddish-brown; lemon juice leaves it yellow, and a few drops of lemon juice turn the red spot yellow again. Why: soap solution and baking soda water are bases, and turmeric is a natural indicator that turns reddish-brown in bases. Lemon juice and vinegar are acids; plain, sugar and salt water are neutral.
