Speaking clearly and to the point — Communication skills for students
Clear speaking is about being understood the first time. Say the main point first, at a steady pace, loud enough for the listener and in simple words: “Ma’am, may I go to the sick room? I have a headache.” Mumbling, speaking too fast, covering your mouth and lots of “umm… like…” hide your message. In everyday talk you do not need big speeches — just the right words, in order, to the right person.
Main point first — “say what you need in one or two short sentences”
Helps you speak clearly: a steady pace, loud enough to hear, one point at a time, simple words, facing the listener, pausing between ideas, main point first.
Makes speech unclear: mumbling, speaking too fast, whispering to a group, lots of “umm… like…”, talking while eating, jumping between topics.
A clear request gives exact details: “Mum, I need ₹50 for the class trip by Friday.” — what, how much and by when.
Use it for: Asking teachers for help, telling parents plans, giving directions, and answering in class.
Worked example: 🎯 Clear and to the point, or rambling? “Mum, I need ₹50 for the class trip by Friday.” → clear and to the point
It says what is needed, how much and by when, in one sentence.
So it is clear and to the point.
Check: Try it: before asking for something today, think of your main point first and say it in one sentence ✓
