What are communication skills for students?

Communication is sharing ideas, facts and feelings so that another person understands them. Every message has a sender, the message itself, a channel (talking, writing, a call, a picture) and a receiver, who shows with feedback whether it worked. Good communication is a skill, and it can be practised like cricket or drawing. This free course has four parts. Part 1, what communication is: sender and receiver, the types of communication (verbal, non-verbal, written and visual), verbal and non-verbal communication together, clear written notes and the barriers that block a message. Part 2, listening: active listening, open and closed questions, taking turns without interrupting, paraphrasing to check you understood, and listening with empathy. Part 3, speaking and body language: speaking clearly, tone of voice, eye contact, posture and facial expressions, “I” statements, and saying no or disagreeing politely. Part 4, communication in real life: messages and emails to teachers, phone and video calls, talking in group projects, online manners and safety, and kind words — thank you, sorry and feedback. Effective communication helps children make friends, learn better in class and solve problems calmly.

Communication Skills for Students questions

What are communication skills for students?

Communication skills are the ways we share ideas, facts and feelings so others understand them — listening, speaking clearly, using the right tone and body language, writing clear messages and replying kindly. For students they help in class, with friends, in group projects and at home. This course covers them in 24 short lessons with practice questions.

What are the types of communication?

There are four main types: verbal (spoken words — talking, phone calls), non-verbal (no words — facial expressions, gestures, posture, eye contact), written (letters, notes, emails, messages) and visual (maps, charts, signs, diagrams). Lesson 2 has practice on each type and lesson 3 compares verbal and non-verbal communication.

What is active listening?

Active listening means giving the speaker your full attention and showing it: stop what you are doing, look at the speaker, listen till the end, then ask a follow-up question or sum up what you heard. Lesson 7 teaches it with real situations from home and school.

How can students improve communication skills?

Practise a little every day: listen before you reply, ask open questions, say your main point first, use a warm tone, keep friendly eye contact, use “I” statements when upset, and write short, clear messages. Every lesson ends with a small real task to try, so the skill grows by doing.

Bachchon ki communication skills kaise sudhaarein? (Hindi)

What age is this communication skills course for?

Ages 8 to 16 — roughly Class 3 to Class 10. Parts 1 and 2 (what communication is, listening) suit everyone from age 8; Parts 3 and 4 (speaking, body language, messages to teachers, calls, group projects and online safety) are most useful from Class 4 onwards.

How do I get a certificate?
