A spreadsheet is a table of rows and columns for numbers. Columns are named with letters (A, B, C …) and rows with numbers (1, 2, 3 …). The box where a row and column meet is a cell, and its address is the column letter and row number, like B3. A formula starts with = and works out an answer from other cells: =A1+A2 adds them, =SUM(A1:A3) adds a range.
