The electricity bill counts energy in units: 1 unit = 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) = 1000 watts used for 1 hour. A 100 W appliance running for 5 hours uses 100 × 5 = 500 Wh = 0.5 unit. The bill is units × the price of one unit. We save electricity by switching off empty rooms, using LED lamps instead of filament bulbs, using daylight and unplugging idle chargers.
