Name the whole — “a title is short and tells what the whole text is about”
Find what every sentence is about.
Choose the short title that names that main idea.
A title about a different topic — or only one small detail — is not the best title.
Use it for: Giving titles to stories, paragraphs and comprehension passages.
Worked example: Which is the best title for this paragraph? → Saving Water
The paragraph: We must not waste water. Fix leaking taps quickly. Use a bucket, not a pipe, to wash the car. Take a quick bath with one bucket of water.
Every sentence is about saving water, so the best title is: Saving Water.
Check: “Saving Water” covers the taps, the car and the bath ✓
Read every choice carefully, then tap the one that is written correctly. Stuck? Press “Show me how”.
