Writing tip

Topic, order, link — “one topic, the right order, joined with linking words”

  1. Find the topic or the story first.
  2. Check the order: what has to happen first?
  3. Keep every sentence on the topic and link them with the right words.

Use it for: Revising Part 2 before paragraph and story writing in school tests.

Worked example: These steps are jumbled. Which step comes FIRST? → Fill a pot with soil.

  1. The steps: Cover it with soil and water it. Make a small hole in the soil. Drop the seed into the hole. Fill a pot with soil.
  2. You need a pot of soil before you can make a hole in it, so the first step is: Fill a pot with soil.

Check: Fill → hole → seed → cover: each step needs the one before ✓
