Practice: sentences — English writing skills for kids
This practice mixes everything from Part 1: fragments, capitals and full stops, joining words, word order, kinds of sentences, describing words and avoiding repetition.
Read it aloud — “a correct sentence sounds right, starts with a capital and ends with the right mark”
Decide what the question is checking — a missing part, a capital, a joining word, the order or the end mark.
Use that lesson’s tip.
Read your choice aloud: a correct sentence sounds complete.
Use it for: Revising Part 1 before a school English test.
Worked example: Two sentences are joined by mistake. Where should the full stop go? → after “rang”
The words: The bell rang the children ran out.
“The bell rang” is a complete idea, so the full stop goes after “rang” and the next sentence starts with a capital: The bell rang. The children ran out.
Check: “The bell rang.” and “The children ran out.” are both complete sentences ✓
Read every choice carefully, then tap the one that is written correctly. Stuck? Press “Show me how”.
