The method

Divide, then multiply — “find one part first, then take as many parts as the top says”

  1. Divide the number by the bottom number: that is one part.
  2. Multiply by the top number.
  3. For “what is left”, use the rest of the parts: bottom − top.

Use it for: Money (spending part of ₹100), marks, class surveys and discounts (Class 5–8).

🧮 Check your own sums with the free Fraction calculator — it shows the working.

Worked example: 3/4 of 20 = 15

  1. First find 1/4: 20 ÷ 4 = 5.
  2. 3 parts: 5 × 3 = 15.

Check: 15 + 5 = 20, and 15 is 3 of the 4 equal parts ✓
