About this word search

“Sports Puzzle 1” is a free online word search for kids about sports. 10 words are hidden in a 12 × 12 grid of letters — across, down and sometimes diagonally. Hint: Find the sports! It plays in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, takes about 5–10 minutes and suits ages 5–12.

How to play

1. Pick a word from the list and say it aloud.
2. Look for its first letter in the grid, then check the letters around it for the second letter.
3. Follow that direction — drag across the word, or tap its first and last letter.
4. Found words are marked; keep going until the list is done.

What your child practises

• Spelling and recognising whole words about sports.
• Visual scanning and attention to detail — the same skill used when reading quickly.
• Patience: the longest word, BASKETBALL, is often the easiest to find!
