How a robot moves depends on where it must go. Wheels are fast and simple on smooth, flat floors. Tracks (caterpillar belts) spread the weight, so they do not sink into mud, sand or snow. Legs can step over gaps and onto stepping-stones, but are harder to balance. Propellers carry drones through the air and underwater robots through water. Most two-wheeled robots steer by running one wheel faster than the other.
