You need: two clear glasses, cold water, warm water poured by an adult, sugar, a teaspoon and a clock. What happens: the sugar in warm water disappears much sooner than the sugar in cold water. Why: the sugar breaks into tiny particles that spread through the water, making a solution. In warm water the particles move faster, so the sugar dissolves faster. Sugar, salt and baking soda dissolve; sand, chalk powder and oil do not. Water can only hold so much sugar — after that, grains stay at the bottom.
