You need: a tall clear glass, honey, water with a drop of food colour, cooking oil and a spoon. What happens: the liquids do not mix — they settle as three layers, honey at the bottom, coloured water in the middle and oil on top. Why: each liquid has a different density (how heavy it is for its size). Honey is the densest, so it sinks; oil is the least dense, so it floats. A cork stops on top of the oil and a coin sinks right to the bottom.
