Origami Jumping Frog for Kids (Step by Step)
Fold an origami frog that really jumps! A 15-minute paper craft for kids with simple folds — press its back and watch it hop.
What your origami jumping frog can look like
Materials
- 1 rectangle of stiff paper or an old card, about 10 × 15 cm
- Sketch pen for the eyes
Steps
- Hold the card upright. Fold the top-right corner to the left edge and unfold. Fold the top-left corner to the right edge and unfold — you see an X.
- Fold the top edge down through the middle of the X and unfold.
- Push the two sides in along the creases so the top collapses into a triangle sitting on a rectangle.
- Fold the two bottom corners of the triangle up to its top point. These are the front legs.
- Fold the left and right sides of the rectangle in to meet in the middle.
- Fold the bottom edge up to meet the bottom of the triangle.
- Fold that same flap back down in half. This zig-zag is the frog’s spring.
- Turn the frog over, draw eyes, then press the back end and slide your finger off — it jumps!
⚠️ Safety noteJump frogs on a table or the floor and never aim them at anyone’s face.
Learn while you craft
- Diagonals and triangles make the frog’s head.
- A folded spring stores energy and lets it go — that is the jump.
- Measure: how far can your frog jump? Make a table of three tries.
