How to Make a Paper Boat (Easy Paper Craft)
Make a classic paper boat from one sheet of paper in 10 minutes — fold, open and float it in a bucket of water. A perfect first paper craft for kids.
What your paper boat can look like
Materials
- 1 rectangular sheet of paper (A4 or an old notebook page)
- Wax crayons (optional, to waterproof the bottom)
Tools
- Your hands — no scissors or glue needed
Steps
- Fold the sheet in half from top to bottom, so the fold is at the top.
- Fold the two top corners down to meet in the middle. It now looks like a house with a roof.
- Fold the bottom strip of the front layer up over the roof. Turn over and do the same on the back.
- Open the shape from the bottom and press it flat into a square (diamond).
- Fold the bottom corner of the front layer up to the top corner. Turn over and repeat — you have a triangle.
- Open the triangle from the bottom again and press it flat into a smaller diamond.
- Hold the two top corners and gently pull them apart. The boat pops open.
- Shape the bottom so it stands flat, colour the base with wax crayon and float it.
⚠️ Safety noteFloat the boat in a bucket, tub or tray with an adult nearby — never near drains, ponds or flowing water, even in the rain.
Learn while you craft
- Squares, rectangles and triangles appear at every fold.
- Symmetry: every fold matches one side to the other.
- Floating: wax keeps water out so the paper stays dry longer.
