Turn a paper plate into a lion mask with a paper mane and a stick handle — a 30-minute craft for kids that is perfect for a story or a school play.
What your paper plate lion mask can look like
Materials
- 1 paper plate
- Yellow, orange and brown crayons or paints
- Orange and brown paper strips (or wool) for the mane
- 1 ice-cream stick
- Glue and sticky tape
Tools
- Child-safe scissors
- Pencil
- An adult to start the eye holes
Steps
- Hold the plate in front of your face and ask an adult to mark where your eyes are.
- Ask an adult to start the eye holes; then cut them a little bigger with child-safe scissors.
- Colour the face yellow and draw a nose, mouth and whisker dots.
- Cut paper strips about 8 cm long and curl some around a pencil.
- Glue the strips all around the edge of the plate to make a big, fluffy mane.
- Tape the ice-cream stick to the bottom of the plate as a handle.
- Let the glue dry, then roar!
⚠️ Safety noteHold the mask with the stick instead of tying elastic around the head, make the eye holes big enough to see well, and never run while wearing it.
