Letters have names (C is “see”) and sounds (c in cat is k). Some letters change their sound: c before e, i or y says s (city), g often says j before e, i or y (giant), ch can say k (school) or sh (chef). With short forms we say the letter names, so we write “an MBA” (em-bee-ay) but “a UFO” (yoo-ef-oh).
✓ You passed this lesson’s test.
A letter’s name is not always its sound — “c, g, ch, s and y change their sound; use “an” before a letter NAME that starts with a vowel sound”
Use it for: Reading new words, spelling aloud, and writing “a” or “an” before short forms like MBA, MP, FIR, SMS and UKG.
Check: an em-bee-ay ✓
