Division as sharing — Maths worksheet

Dividing means sharing equally or making equal groups. 15 bananas shared among 3 friends: give one each again and again, or ask "3 times what is 15?" — the answer is 5, so 15 ÷ 3 = 5. Multiplication tables help you divide fast.

The method

Share and check — “divide by asking "which number times the divisor gives the total?"”

  1. Sharing equally among friends → divide.
  2. Making groups of a size → divide.
  3. Use the table: which number × 3 = 15? That number is 15 ÷ 3.

Use it for: Sharing sweets fairly, making teams, and the division chapter of Class 2 maths.

Worked example: There are 15 bananas. They are shared equally among 3 friends. How many bananas does each friend get? → 5

  1. Ask: which number × 3 = 15?
  2. 5 × 3 = 15, so each friend gets 5.

Check: 5 + 5 + 5 = 15 ✓
